Spirit of Wipro Run brings together participants from 35 countries
Wipro, a global leader in information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing, today hosted the 16th annual 'Spirit of Wipro' (SOW) Run, bringing together thousands of participants from over 35 countries to run together in spirit.
For sixteen years, Wiproites worldwide have gathered to commemorate Wipro's core values. The annual SOW run is designed to inspire employees to be global citizens.
The theme for this year was "In unison. To magnificence, "inspired by Wiproites' fortitude during a year of tremendous turmoil. Along with surpassing the competition across all business metrics, Wipro teams have remained committed to supporting one another and making a positive social impact in their communities.
As was the case last year, this year's race was virtual, and runners conformed fully to local COVID-19 guidelines and safety measures while competing.
Even in these difficult circumstances, enthusiasm was great. Participants tracked their progress and stayed connected with other runners from across the world using the free Strava app. Wipro also invited employees to upload selfies and films leading up to and during the race day, which were curated and broadcast on the company's internal channels and social media channels.
Each year, Wipro matches all earnings from the Spirit of Wipro Run 100% and directs them to Wipro Cares, Wipro Limited's community projects arm. Historically, these donations have been used mostly to fund impoverished children's education. In 2020, the majority of funds went toward pandemic relief operations, which will continue this year as well. Wipro continues to work toward its mission of creating a more fair and sustainable society for all through these efforts and the company's broader community impact.
Thierry Delaporte, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Wipro Limited, stated following his participation in the event, "Beyond digital innovation and business transformation, Wipro's dedication to growth is unwavering. The Spirit of Wipro Run exemplifies this. We are a global family united by a common purpose: to support one another, to work for healthier futures, and to give back to our communities."
Wipro Limited's President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Saurabh Govil, stated, "After such a trying year, it's heartwarming to see Wiproites from all over the world unite, albeit online. The Spirit of Wipro Run reflects the principles and culture that contribute to our organization's resilience and purposefulness. We think that the event's contributions will contribute to a good influence on local communities in the countries in which we operate."
