Right to protein introduces soy fed product label in India
Right To Protein, a national public health effort, announced the launch of India's first feed label for animal protein products, dubbed 'Soy Fed,' in September 2021. Animals fed high-quality soy are more nutritious and provide a more complete protein supply for human use. Sneha Group, India's largest poultry producer, will be the first to use the voluntary 'Soy Fed Product' label on all of its new Sneha Select ready-to-cook chicken marinades, which are made from soy-fed birds and are devoid of preservatives and antibiotics. The label will assist consumers in differentiating packaged poultry, beef, and fish that have been fed soy — a high-quality source of protein for cattle.
The #SoyFed label will assist customers in making educated decisions when it comes to identifying protein-rich livestock and aquaculture goods. It will also assist the industry in establishing soy as a high-quality protein source for animal feed. “Like humans, cattle and aquaculture obtain protein from dietary sources such as soy, which contributes to the definition of the protein consumed by humans. Due to the nutritional value of soybean meals, they are considered a suitable feed for livestock and aquaculture. The introduction of the 'Soy Fed' label is a critical step toward increasing consumer awareness of soy-based feed and its role in consuming high-quality protein, as well as informing consumers that "to know your food, you must know your feed," according to Jaison John, Lead - India, US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and Right To Protein supporter.
With its launch, #SoyFed has already garnered support from Sneha Group and others who see the label as a way to ensure the quality of their livestock and aquaculture products on the market. D. Varun Reddy, Director and CEO of Sneha Group, stated, "Historically, food labels have influenced customer choice of food, nutrition, and farming techniques." However, in India, food labels have become increasingly important in recent years. We're honoured to be the first to adopt the Soy Fed label – the world's first feed label. As a global leader throughout the chicken value chain, our objective has always been to establish the industry standard as a producer of the finest quality products. With the nutritional benefits of soy in mind, we have been introducing this feed into our livestock's diet. We feel that launching the label is the appropriate step toward establishing that the product was fed high-quality feed, a critical distinguishing factor for animal protein sources.”
The 'Soy Fed' label is currently in the process of reaching out to additional retail companies in India to request voluntary inclusion of this label on their packed protein goods - meat, poultry, and fish – in order to educate citizens about the fact that we are what we eat!
