Odisha to host the prestigious FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup 2021 in Bhubaneswar
Following its successful hosting of the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup, Bhubaneswar's temple city will host the prestigious FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021. The much-anticipated announcement was made in Bhubaneswar on Thursday by Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Odisha's Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Shri Tusharkanti Behera, FIH President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, and Hockey India Secretary General Mr Rajinder Singh.
This premier international hockey tournament will take place from 24 November to 5 December 2021 and will feature 16 teams: India, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Egypt, Belgium, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States of America, Canada, and Chile.
While Odisha is also preparing to host the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup in 2023 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik welcomed the idea to host the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar in November 2021. He also unveiled the event's logo. "Odisha is the country's hockey capital, and the Odisha State Government will continue to do everything possible to assist the sport expand and win additional international honours. We are looking forward to hosting 16 of the world's best junior teams to the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021. We are honoured to host this illustrious tournament. Our first objective would be to create a safe environment in which to compete in these difficult economic times," declared Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha State Government.
"The FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021 represents the summit of U-21 events and is a prominent fixture on the FIH calendar." We are overjoyed that Odisha is prepared to host an event of this size due to their world-class facilities. As is customary, the Odisha State Government has provided us full support, and the event will adhere to all applicable Covid-19 protocols.” Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, President, FIH, stated.
Speaking about the preparations for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021, which will take place in less than three months, Hockey India Secretary General Mr Rajinder Singh stated, "It is an incredible honour for Hockey India to host back-to-back FIH Hockey Junior Men's World Cups." In 2016, we had a fantastic adventure in Lucknow, winning the event by defeating Belgium in the final. Hockey India has hosted a number of international events in India over the years, and with the cooperation of the Odisha State Government, we are optimistic of hosting another great event for the participating teams, officials, and fans."
