Jio tops 4G chart in download speed; Airtel, Vi reduce gap in Oct: Trai data
According to the most recent data from telecom regulator Trai, Reliance Jio maintained its top position among 4G service providers in October, with the highest average data download speed of 21.9 megabits per second.
However, the Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea networks have been steadily increasing data download speeds, closing the gap with the Jio network.
After a minor dip in 4G data download speed, the Jio network resumed the speed level of 21.9 mbps it had recorded in June in October, while Airtel and Vodafone Idea (VIL) have seen a nearly two and a half times increase in data download speed on their networks.
Airtel's 4G data download speed increased to 13.2 mbps in October from 5 mbps in June, while VIL's 4G speed increased to 15.6 mbps from 6.5 mbps over the same five-month period.
In terms of 4G data upload speed, VIL maintained its lead in October. The upload speed on the company's network was 7.6 mbps, the fastest in the last five months.
The download speed enables consumers to access content from the internet, whereas the upload speed enables them to send or share images or videos with their contacts.
Similarly, Airtel and the Jio network set a five-month high for 4G data upload speed of 5.2 mbps and 6.4 mbps in October.
Trai computes the average speed using data collected in real time across India via its MySpeed application.
