Haldiram's partners BVeg to launch plant based Keema Pao & Keema Samosa
In collaboration with plant-based foods company BVeg Foods, the Indian pioneer Haldiram's restaurant chain has launched the all new plant-based KeemaPao and Keema Samosa.
Haldiram, the leading manufacturer of namkeens, sweets, western snacks, and ready-to-eat food ranges, is now entering the plant protein segment, marking a new milestone for both the company and the plant protein ecosystem. The launch of the well-known food brand and plant-based meat company, backed by the non-profit Good Food Institute (GFI) India, demonstrates further mass market momentum in the burgeoning plant-based foods category.
The KeemaPao and Keema Samosa are part of the winter special menu 2021 offerings available across all 80 restaurants in northern India. The food items are a retake on classic Indian favourites, made with the goodness of plant protein and fresh vegetables – lip-smacking delicious flavours without the guilt.
Beyond this exciting launch, the company intends to launch its products through additional channels in the coming months, and consumers can expect to see even more diverse product creations and partnerships in the near future. This launch is yet another significant milestone in India's rapidly growing plant-based food industry, and it adds to the company's recent success with convenience store chain 24 Seven.
Akanksha and Prateek Ghai, founders of BVeg Foods, commented on the launch, saying, "Haldiram's has always been a family favourite, with a long history of catering to all age groups – from the oldest to the youngest in the family. It brings us great joy to be associated with such a forward-thinking brand, and we believe that by working together, we can bring protein to the centre of the plate while also putting a smile on many people's faces. Our product development and innovation teams have collaborated and gone above and beyond to ensure that the products resonate with consumers' all-time favourites at Haldiram's, and we eagerly await people's feedback."
According to The Good Food Institute India, the'smart protein' industry is growing, with over $3 billion invested in 2020, globally, and 2021, proving to be a watershed moment for Indian companies.
Varun Deshpande, managing director of GFI India, expressed his delight, saying, "2021 is proving that India is an exciting market for next-generation, tasty, and protein-rich plant-based foods, particularly in a post-pandemic era." Indian palates are ready for delectable foods that are far superior for global and public health. The plant-based foods and, in particular, plant-based meat sector in India is exploding - at the Good Food Institute India, we've worked for four years to lay the groundwork for entrepreneurial, scientific, and policy momentum, which is now manifesting itself in the form of dozens of launches across the country."
"Today, we're delighted to share with you a particularly exciting launch - BVeg Foods, a manufacturing company founded with GFI India support and dedicated to providing capacity for the entire industry to produce next-generation plant-based foods, is launching with iconic Indian QSR and packaged foods brand Haldiram's!" Plant-based KeemaPao and Keema Samosa are being introduced in 80 Haldiram locations across North India. The launch is the first time an Indian QSR has ventured into plant-based meats, and it is a sign of the industry's progress. We applaud BVeg Foods and Haldiram's partnership in bringing the category to the mass market and driving this opportunity. "In the future, we hope to see many more plant-based options on the menu," he added.
