Experts deliberate on challenges faced by Indian families
Almond Board of California hosted an online panel discussion on the topic "Challenges to ensuring optimal family healthcare in the face of fast-changing lifestyles in post-pandemic America" featuring prominent personalities from India as well as the USA.
The panel stressed the importance of making lifestyle and dietary changes. It featured Soha Ali Khan (Bollywood actor) as regional head – Dietetics, Max Healthcare Delhi, Ritika Samaddar, nutrition consultant, and Sheela Krishnaswamy, VP – Global Market Development, Almond Board California. RJ Shezzi moderated the panel.
The world is constantly changing and evolving, creating uncertainty about the future. As such, the need to ensure family health is a major focus for many Indians. This is something that is within everyone's control. For years, it has been suggested that healthy eating habits can help support good health.
The topic of what to eat and not eat is often a hot topic. Mothers and consumers, in general, are trying to balance scientific advice with current trends and their culinary beliefs, family traditions, recipes, and availability of local food.
Many Indians are now facing a new reality after the second pandemic wave. While some regions continue to deal with the effects of the pandemic, others need to make changes in their lives to adapt to the post-pandemic world. The discussion focused on the many facets of recovery and the need to ensure that every member of the family is well. Panelists shared personal stories and examples to encourage families in India to make better investments in their health and lives.
The panel stressed the importance of nutrition for family members to improve immunity and reduce the risk from lifestyle diseases that are increasing in number. Panelists spoke out about the need to view health holistically and see each function as a part of a bigger goal. Panelists agreed that it is important to combine healthy eating habits with regular exercise, mindful snacking, and a conscious effort to manage stress. Each of these elements will lead to better health over the long term.
Soha Ali Khan stated, "It isn't easy being a mother in today's world - there are so much that concern and worry me - and many times I feel personally responsible." As a mother, it is stressful to ensure my family is safe and healthy. One thing I have learned in the past year is that, while many things are out of my control, my family's well-being is. Our family eats a few almonds each day as part of its plan to be healthy. Almonds are a nutritious snack that is both healthy and delicious. They can be eaten raw, or mixed into smoothies, shakes, or oats. Regular consumption of almonds helps to strengthen the immunity of my family and me. They are rich in copper, zinc, and iron, which are all nutrients that contribute to the growth, development, and maintenance of the immune system.
Sheela Krishnaswamy stated, "When you look at the world around you now, a lot of things have changed. And along with that many of us too." It's important to take lessons from this difficult experience and allow for a path to recovery. This can be done by changing old habits and replacing them with better ones. My top recommendation to families is to clean out the pantry and replace unhealthy, high-calorie foods with healthy options such as almonds and fresh fruits. A change in your snacking habits can help improve heart health in your family. According to a study, people who had replaced traditional snacks with almonds experienced an increase in Heart Rate Variability (a key indicator of cardiac function and health).
Emily Fleischman stated, "In a post-pandemic world, good nutritional and a healthy lifestyle are key." We have worked for many years to increase awareness in families around the world and especially in India, about the importance of healthy eating habits and regular exercise. ABC continues to promote this through scientific research that reveals the benefits of almonds in healthy dietary patterns. We all adapt to this changing world and need to make changes to our lives. It's important that we reassess our lifestyles and diets to ensure a better tomorrow.
Families across India should make small but important lifestyle and dietary changes to improve their quality of life. The long-term benefits are immense. A handful of almonds can be added to your diet to help you achieve this. Daily almond consumption can have a positive impact on overall health. It can help improve heart health, support healthy blood sugar levels, and weight loss. A healthy lifestyle that includes almonds daily can lead to a stronger immune system, which can help prevent future ailments.
