DRDO and IISc partners for Joint Advanced Technology Program
DRDO today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru for creation of JATP--Center of Excellence (JATP -- CoE) at the Assumptions of IISc to expand the scope and objective of existing Joint Advanced Technology Program. The JATP-CoE located in the campus of IISc, Bengaluru will empower Directed Basic & Applied Research and participate with premier research institutes through multi-disciplinary & multi-institutional cooperation. The focused research efforts at the center will cause realization of native technologies in the critical regions to come up with state of art technologies.
In accordance with the MoU, DRDO will encourage JATP in equipping it with innovative and one of a kind research facilities that will enable the scholars and faculty to conduct complex research. DRDO will ease for innovative research to use technology result from the futuristic software. DRDO scientists and scientists will work together with the academic research faculty and scholars in addressing challenging scientific problems to find an innovative alternative in advanced regions of research namely Advanced Aerospace Systems & Materials, High Temperature Materials, Micro & Nano Systems Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Quantum Technologies etc.. JATP-CoE may also have other best institutions in the country, according to their own research strengths.
Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy emphasized that JATP was produced by Late Hon'ble President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at 1983 (while leading IGMDP program), in which the DRDO scientists collaborated with the school of IISc to operate on various missile engineering. He further emphasized on expanding research actions for defence & security by incorporating the upcoming technology requirements of additional DRDO engineering clusters and associated labs. He also briefed about the long-term research & technology development occurring and maturing in Center of Excellences made by DRDO at various academic institutes.
Director IISc also valued DRDO's decision for expanding the JATP-CoE and assured for active participation of IISc for growth of futuristic technologies.
