MG Motor India unveils Astor
MG Motor India has revealed the MG Astor, the country's first SUV equipped with a personal artificial intelligence assistant and segment-first Autonomous (Level 2) technology. Astor is built on the MG's globally successful ZS platform.
Astor's contemporary appearance will appeal to consumers, as it is based on MG's design philosophy of Emotional Dynamism. It features a distinctive Bold Celestial Grille that provides a strong first impact on the road. With a traditional leopard jump shoulder line, the SUV strikes a sleek and ready-for-action stance. Astor's LED headlamps include nine crystal diamond pieces that provide a distinguishing hawk-eye appearance with precise detailing.
The interiors are created using soft-touch and premium materials in an appealing manner. It will be available with two engine options: the Brit Dynamic 220 TURBO petrol engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and capable of producing a tremendous 220Nm of torque and 140ps of power. And the other is a VTi Tech petrol engine with a manual transmission and an eight-speed CVT transmission that produces 144Nm of torque and 110ps of power.
The much-anticipated mid-size MG Astor will go on display in MG dealerships on September 19th, and bookings will begin shortly afterwards.
Carl Gotham, Advanced Design Director of MG's Global Design Centre in London, UK, said on Astor's appeal, "The concept of Emotional Dynamism lends Astor a premium feel." The mid-size SUV is a visual treat, with excellent attention to detail and astonishing features. We put design at the forefront of the car's development to ensure that it looks as amazing as it performs. With cutting-edge technology and design brilliance, it advances the MG brand's legacy. India can look forward to a flawless driving experience enhanced by personal artificial intelligence support inside the MG Astor.”
“With our SUVs, we have introduced multiple industry firsts to the Indian automotive market,” Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, stated at the introduction of Astor. This time, we're dealing with Autonomous (Level 2), MG Astor, who comes equipped with a personal AI helper. We feel that Astor is a desirable product that will resonate with customers due to its stunning exteriors, opulent interiors, and future technology.”
The personal AI assistant of MG Astor exhibits human-like emotions and speech. Deepa Malik, a Paralympic athlete, lent her voice to the personal AI assistant, humanising the experience. Astor's AI technology is based on MG's concept of a Car-as-a-Platform (CAAP) of possibilities, which would enable consumers to tailor services to their specific needs.
In Astor, MG has worked with BOSCH to provide ADAS (advanced driving assistance systems). The SUV is equipped with artificial intelligence technology, six radars, and five cameras to manage 14 sophisticated Autonomous Level 2 functions. With 27 standard safety systems such as ESP, TCS, and HDC, the automobile guarantees a more secure driving experience. Among the vehicle's numerous comfort, convenience, and safety features are six airbags, six-way power-adjustable driver seats, an electric parking brake, heated ORVMs, a rain-sensing wiper, a PM 2.5 filter, a panoramic sky roof, a rear AC vent, and front and rear armrests, a 10.1-inch high-definition infotainment system with a 7-inch embedded LCD screen.
Astor is equipped with over 80 internet functions that are powered by MG i-SMART technology. On top of that, MG Astor hosts subscriptions and services, like mapping and navigation with MapMyIndia, Jio connection, and the world's first Blockchain-protected vehicle digital passport by KoineArth. MG car owners will also gain access to music via the JioSaavn app, as well as an industry-first feature that allows them to reserve a parking space via their head unit (powered by Park+, initially in certain locations) and infinite knowledge from Wikipedia.
